Light Blue’ or ‘Purple’, but today look for cultivars with names like ‘Blue Pacific’ and series with names such as Angel Mist, Angel Face, and Carita. ‘Angel Mist Lavender Pink’ fills containers to overflowing, and ‘Angel Mist Lavender Improved’ is always a hit, particularly when planted in combination with Angelonia angustifolia ‘Carita Purple’ yellow everlastings. Larger-flowered forms like ‘Angel Face Bicolor’ are impressive, as is the newcomer, the Carita series, amply demonstrated by ‘Carita Rose’ and ‘Carita Purple’.

These are mainly represented by the popular Rocket snapdragons, which may be bought in seed packages every spring. These may grow 4' in height, however; medium forms (2 1⁄2–3' tall) do not topple nearly as easily and still give a bold upright look to the garden. Numerous medium forms have been bred, but one of the best is the Liberty group, available in many colors. ‘Liberty Bronze’ and ‘Liberty Yellow’ are tough to beat. The Sonnets are similar, and ‘Sonnet Pink’ is one of the best. A shorter group yet (2–2 1⁄2') is seen in plants such as the Solstice group, also colorfully represented and a little earlier to flower than the Libertys.

In areas of hot summers, plants often grow rampantly, covering fences and trees, but flower again only as the weather cools down. Full sun. Asclepias Asarina antirrhiniflora ‘Red Dragon’ Asarina scandens ‘Jewel Purple’ buildings and jump wide canyons. Not really, but they do grow quite rapidly. The most common is the climbing snapdragon, Asarina scandens, which twines around the supporting trellis or netting. I place them at the base of a fence tacked with some woven wire. The wire is almost invisible when the plants are not on it but is an easy structure for the stems to get around.
